Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) Biopolyesters - Emerging and Major Products of Industrial Biotechnology

Industrial Biotechnology is classified as the production of large-scale industrial chemicals, polymers, and many foods and feed additives via biological means using renewable resources. There is overlap between the different types of biotechnology such as Green or Ag Biotech. and with Red or Pharma Biotech. Biopolymers such as PHA are barely recognized as belonging to the Industrial Biotechnology cluster. This article describes the various biotechnology sectors or clusters, their interrelationship, and PHA's place within the Industrial Biotechnology Sector.
