Cost Benefit Analysis - Compostable Plastics (Eunomia Report)

A new cost-benefit analysis by Eunomia, commissioned for Compostable Coalition UK and supported by UK Research & Innovation, shows that compostable plastic packaging—when used in the right contexts—can offer real environmental and economic benefits in the UK.

🔍 Key findings:

♻️ More recycling – Compostable flexibles could be sorted via the dry recycling system
💰 Cost savings – Less contamination in food waste going to anaerobic digestion
🔥 Lower emissions – Fewer conventional plastics being incinerated

The study also outlines a policy roadmap to boost the circularity of compostable plastic packaging over the short, medium, and long term.
